Those hotels that have burnt and those that are still in operation today. They also have a nice gift shop including “Don’t Give Up The Ship“ flags, clothing, and glass ware.

Put-in-Bay has plenty of lodging for those who wish to stay overnight and enjoy more of their island time. Find a Put-in-Bay hotel room, or maybe a rental home or condo to spend the night.

Auction for History Highlights and History

Auctions have been used for everything from arranging early marriages to auctioning antiquities, artifacts, and works of fine art. Early auctions were closed by driving a spear into the ground instead of the gavel typically use today because back then they used what they had, but the general nature of the auction has remained the same. Over the last few thousand years, many unique variations on the standard “open ascending price auction” have been created to provide a more unique auction experience that best fits the goods or services that happen to be up for sale.

Some of the first American settlers, our Pilgrim ancestors, were known to use auctions as a common method of selling their crops, livestock, family heirlooms, tools, tobacco, and even entire farms. So auctions like the Auction for History have been an integral part of our nation’s history.

In the last 5 decades, charity auctions like this one – typically live or silent auctions – have become an incredibly popular means of raising money for nonprofit organizations like LEIHS. Charity auctions are actually the 4th fastest growing segment of the auction industry with roughly 2/3 of all National Auctioneers Association members conducting at least one charity auction annually. Visit the island and enjoy our annual Auction for History.
